Dental Implants

If you’ve ever lost a tooth, you know that there’s more than meets the eye. The tooth is held in the jaw bone via roots that hide behind gum tissue. Traditional bridges and dentures do not address the problem of tooth-root loss. Dental implants are currently the only solution that does.

Dental Implants – A Modern Marvel

Dental implants were invented over 30 years ago when a Swedish scientist discovered that bone tissue would fuse with titanium. When titanium is implanted into the jaw bone, the bone tissue actually attaches to it, just as it would if a natural tooth root had grown there. The bone-implant bond creates an amazingly stable foundation for a new tooth to be attached.

Replacing Multiple Missing Teeth

A dental implant can be used to replace a single missing tooth, but do you need an implant for each tooth you’re missing? Not necessarily. Depending on where these missing teeth occur, Dr. Rothenberger may be able to secure a bridge (multiple tooth replacement) or a partial denture to just one or two dental implants. An analysis of your oral health, bone mass, and medical history will help the dentist determine which implant solution is right for you.
